On March 3, 2026, CICS Longwood High School became an epicenter of innovation in student-centered learning. As the inaugural site for the national Teach For America (TFA) and Ripple Blockchain Bootcamp Series, more than 50 of our scholars stepped out of the traditional classroom and into the fast-paced world of digital asset infrastructure.
This partnership—fueled by Ripple’s $25 million commitment to education—was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the rapidly evolving digital economy. The three-hour intensive session immersed students into the high-stakes world of blockchain, a decentralized ledger technology. “It’s important that we teach our students to be creators just as much as they are consumers,” said Mary Beck, Distinctive Schools President.
Throughout the morning, students moved from theoretical concepts to tangible execution with the goal of designing a digital asset or smart contract that addressed challenges specifically to supply chain management, creating an innovative solution to a real-world problem. The day peaked with a 'Shark Tank' style showcase. Standing before a panel including educators and industry experts, student teams pitched their solutions with the kind of professional poise and public speaking skills that define career readiness.
Sophomore student Kai’lel captured this shift from consumer to creator, noting that he learned both the technical side of the digital ledger as well as the practical "why" behind it. “I learned how to create a blockchain and how to use it to pursue crops or farms... to work with and negotiate with others,” he shared. He defined the technology simply: “A blockchain is like blocks full of information—it’s how we transfer information.” Kai’lel’s takeaway highlights a central goal of the bootcamp: giving students the tools to build their own networks and define their professional negotiations. The day was an opportunity for students to learn about new paths they can choose as they navigate high school and can now point to real-world experience in a burgeoning field.
As the very first high school in the country to host this series, CICS Longwood High School is defining what a forward-thinking education looks like. We are equipping our students with the technical skills and the professional confidence to participate in the industries of today for the futures they choose.
